I've got nothing. [after the fact... but watch me blather anyway]
I uploaded a new usericon. Yay. I finally decided what the locked posts should have... Then I went and fixed all the previous locked posts and updated them.
This morning had the potential to be catastrophic, but absolutely nothing happened. It wasn't so smooth that I feel like I am taunting the gods either. I got second breakfast, which tends to be a bit like having a nice hobbity hole.
I have been having a stupid problem with VLC, last week, in full screen mode, mousing over the bottom would bring up the controls. Now it does not. I have zero idea what's wrong and everything I tried did not fix it. I don't know what I did, or even if it's something that's encoded in the file. I'm just watching podcasts of Countdown and The Rachel Maddow Show, so I need to be able to scoot ahead.
I'm supposed to go to dinner with a friend who is in town for the weekend. I have asked, in our ~weekly emails for food preferences, other plans, locations, just any sort of criteria. Now it looks like it's going to be a lunch and she's using my previous specific suggestion with other friends. But she didn't say anything about what else might sound good. Just offered to call once she was on her way. Seems like having an idea of what town would be helpful. So I suggested something in all the cities she's driving through that are within an hour of me. But when I don't know if she's going to be wanting cheeseburgers or Korean, it's hard to say, "Let's go for Indian." Indian--- especially because I haven't found a great Indian place since the last one closed years ago.
I hate making plans with waffly people because I'm never sure if I'm supposed to be the decider or if I'm supposed to be all womanly and waffle too. I'm thinking we've discovered the problem. I'm getting really misogynistic. Fuck. Are there women who can make actual plans? Or at least say, "I'm going to be on this route, I'll need to be able to get back on the highway and since I'm driving there should be parking. I like spicy foods of all kinds, but don't want Chinese. I can be to your place by about 1pm, but if you want to eat earlier, you'll have to meet me partway. Do you have recommendations or favorite restaurants?"
But surprisingly many people get really offended when I say, "I don't like eating at chain restaurants, there needs to be parking, we prefer spicy food, I don't eat fish so there have to be other choices on the menu, we're going to be wearing jeans and turtlenecks so it can't be ultra-fancy." I usually get the response, "Most women don't have such strong opinions."
As time goes on, I'm really starting to understand people who think they're the wrong gender. Of course, most of those seem to be men who think being a woman is all about being pretty. And I know being a man in our society carries a lot of expectations and intolerance. But it really sucks when someone comes right out and says I should not speak my mind.
And it really sucks trying to make plans with someone who clearly has all those parameters and refuses to be explicit. Like I'm going to know whether she's staying at a B&B with late breakfast and whether she's going to stop on the way?
