I am not a facebook user. I do have a LJ account, which I use to read groups with age-restricted content (fanfic, mostly) and flocked posts from people who haven't migrated.
With the current LJ crosslinkage to Facebook, I would not allow comments on my posts there, nor would I comment upon anyone else's posts. It's a moot point because I'm not posting on LJ and I don't leave comments most of the time.
Facebook really pretty much only works if you're using a real name. Most of my LJ stuff (now DW stuff) only works if it's not. Cross linking them is unhelpful and considering the people I know who have lost jobs and opportunities because they write fanfic, I have anecdotal evidence for it being dangerous.
I loathe Facebook because its version of "privacy" is everyone wanting put up YouTube videos of their pelvic and colonoscopy exams. I hate the crosslinkage they do to everything, so if you're a Netflix member and a Facebook member, for a while the entire world could see every movie you borrowed. I watch a lot of gay romances, which I get from Netflix because I don't want everyone in my community to know I watch them. If I rented them from the video store, people could see me getting those movies. Now, the postman sees my red envelope but has no idea what's inside. I'm not ashamed of the things I watched, but I don't need to volunteer for judgment either. Facebook tells people everything and everyone loves them for it.
When I was young, I told everyone everything and I was told that was tactless. I was told that no one would like me if I couldn't keep my thoughts to myself. No one likes a tattletale. Society works better with the little white lies we tell each other.
I disbelieved that as a child. I disbelieve it now. But I find myself angry that precisely the behavior that made me an unlikable person is what causes people to think Facebook is godlike.
I have a certain amount of trust here. Almost all my posts are unlocked. It's because I'm not talking about my real life, I'm not telling you where I live, I'm not giving out people's real names, so what I say here can be true because it's not going to be identifiable in ways that harm someone. Someone once told me a story about some little town in some Asian country (of the left-Asian kind where colorations are similar and distinguishing features are more subtle) had a bathhouse for women which caught on fire. All the naked women ran out, covering their faces and not breasts or genitals. Because it didn't matter what was seen in the emergency as long as no one knew who was who. My problem with the Facebook linkage is that it makes everyone the only redhead in the bathhouse.
