Interestingly, although I don't remember it, I told Netflix that I gave it 4 stars for the animated interpretation. It took some doing to find that information since Netflix no longer lets me search for things I can't order (I don't get DVDs from them anymore.) It's not available from Amazon Prime (but is available for instant viewing if you pay for it from them) nor from Hulu.
Superman interested me a lot more on Superfriends than lately. I'll look for the book you recommend though.
(odd.. this was placed outside your thread, fixing)
Some of Superman's tendencies really bother me... he acts like an old man in most of the versions I've seen. Which you don't see so much of in Batman, because every time they start again, it gets updated backstory and context. There's a science fiction novel by Robert Sawyer which talks about people getting android bodies with their brains uploaded so they will live forever and this one character who was an old lady when she got hers eventually moved off planet because she didn't want to change with the times and that didn't leave any room for new people to have their own traditions and beliefs evolve.
Superman's beliefs haven't really evolved from the 1940s. He's pretty upset with Lois for not staying home where it's safe, for example.
