trying new things and going new places

serynI don't go out much. This has been slowly changing of late. Joining the gym has really helped because I go out of my apartment most days now. But that's not the same as going out somewhere.
I take myself out for lunch about once a week, good weeks it's more. But chances are pretty good that I won't go somewhere new without an external influence.
I have more people in my in-person life lately too. No idea how that happened, but there's the coffee woman who lives in my building and the two knitting women (one of whom doesn't go out either, so she doesn't count, even though I find her more interesting personally).
Finally, I started tracking all the new places I've been and created a Google map with the ones that don't suck. Today I created another map, one with places I want to go. It's only got one thing, but I saw it on Diners Drive-ins and Dives which has reviewed positively several places I've been while traveling and enjoyed. The new place is about half a mile from the newest yarn store, which is probably my favorite local one. (Favorite being relative since they have very little stuff I'd actually want and it's all about 70% more than it should cost when normally local yarn stores are about 50% more than expected cost.)
But I think I'm going to keep looking for new places and try to push myself more. Where I live is expensive and part of that expense is due to the central location, but if I never go anywhere, then I'm wasting money (though Simon does appreciate not having an even-longer commute.)
I have to go out alone or with friends because Simon is universally too tired to go out in the evenings and always wants to zone on weekends. And since I prefer to spend time with him at home to going out, I try to go out during the day, which limited the social experience. No one is free during the day unless they're unemployed, then they don't want to go out for food very often. Although I'm often the limiting factor in that equation, I don't like to spend too much money.
