OK weird question time.

Do people who live in Hawaii and Florida use the same kinds of towels as everyone else? It's incredibly humid where I live, all year 'round, and my gigantic bath sheets do not get all the way dry if I shower multiple times per day, even if I alternate towels.

Additionally, Simon's mother absconded with all my hand towels and cut them up for rags. I have no earthly clue why she did this and then stacked Simon's bathroom with the hand towels that were in the back of the linen closet (His are the red ones; I hate red; he hates hand towels.)

My previous set of towels has faded to a mauve type color that is really unpleasantly pinkish red, so I am using this as a justification to replace everything. Simon can use my old towels and get rid of his old towels entirely.

Also, there's a 30% sale at LandsEnd, plus free shipping. And their towels have been nice in the past and currently come in a deep purple color they are calling "eggplant". I can get two bath sheets, two bath towels, two hand towels, two washcloths, and a bathmat for $125 including tax.

But ultra plush thick terry towels do NOT get dry in my bathroom, so I thought I would ask if there was a Hawaiian style towel or some trick I was missing. I want to shower a lot more often lately.

I went from showering once a day at most to, in the past couple weeks since I cut my hair down to the near buzz, two or even three showers.

Before, I could alternate 2 towels and be good with that even though the towels soaked up a lot of water from drying my hair. They'd be good for at least 10 days.

Now, no matter what happens, I can't find a towel hanging anywhere that fits in my bathroom that isn't unpleasantly damp by the second day.

However, I don't have any clue how to find other towels. I don't like the ones at Target. I'm still boycotting Macy's. It's understood that anyone who can shop elsewhere should not shop at Walmart. So I looked at LandsEnd and LLBean. Their towels are very plush. And it occurred to me that I wasn't likely the only person who'd had this problem because it's always humid in Hawaii. So maybe they buy their towels somewhere else.

I like that the fancy supima plush towels are soft. They don't need fabric softener to be the kinds of things you can rub across your face without giving yourself towel burn.

I haven't placed the order. I'm trying to tell myself that it's okay to want something to assuage my anger (at Simon's mother for taking my hand towels and cutting them up) and make myself happy and then to actually get it. But I don't think Simon will take the yucky pinkish-red towels for himself. Although I wish he would since his other towels are ratty and holey in places. (He likes those better than the nicer ones... probably because they get all the way dry, he might be smarter than me.)

I tried using a percale twin bed sheet (no idea why I still have one of those since I haven't had a twin bed in more than 20 years) but it just smears the water around on my skin instead of drying me. Not very absorbent. I might try a flannel sheet next. The size is pretty awkward, but the physical handling issues wouldn't interfere with determining whether the material was a good choice for towelling.

Or maybe I should just order the purple towels.

Yeah, good woven bed sheets (smooth for sleeping) aren't meant to absorb water: the thread is twisted too tightly. Flannel should work better.

My current towel was a BB&Beyond purchase, middling thickness. I've been using it for fifteen years. :P It's only starting to fray along the long edges.

I don't think I've ever bought and used fabric softener. My college bf (who did the laundry because he hated dishes and I don't mind dish-washing) used the little sheets, but in general softener is more chemical-y than I want to smell. Shouldn't have any effect on how well/poorly a piece of looped cotton dries subsequently, anyway.
