Eastwick.
Bleah.

It's actually, despite the advertising, my kind of show, seemingly anyway. It's not as smutty, there's some teasingly comedic innuendo, but no real sex.

But it's really ghastly. Not in the way that will keep me from watching a second one, because it was so awkward I have to hope the cast will gel.

I've seen 2 of the 4 major actors in this, seen them in other things. I'm a huge fan of Paul Gross. But he's horrible in this. I mean, I even liked him in the ridiculous movie about curling. But he's wooden and unserious and hugely unbelievable. There is absolutely no way a man with power is like that. It feels like someone acting like someone acting like someone with power. I can't tell if that's supposed to be like that or if he's unbelievably bad.

The one woman I've seen, she played Tess on Eureka and left the show suddenly. I guess she got this as a better offer. Only she's unnatural and awkward and unbelievable in this. I've just seen her in something else and she was awkward there, but mostly believable (for a character who was dropped in with no backstory and no development, that's actually an accomplishment). So she's not unskilled.

With two reference points indicating that the script and direction and intention is to Natalie Portman-in-Star Wars these otherwise talented actors, I'm underwhelmed.

There is an off-chance that we're supposed to think the people of Eastwick should have been more skeptical which would make the weird eccentric seeming too obvious what they meant to do. But the overall effect was like having a rice krispies treat shoved in your mouth and being told to swallow without chewing.

But Paul Gross looks phenomenally better than he did in Slings and Arrows. He's definitely dyed his hair. He's ancient, like older than me even, and I still thought the "you want to sculpt me nude" scene was nice viewing.

(I need a books/tv/movies type icon.)
