The last of my media reviews for this weekend, I watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
I liked it. It wasn't as good as the first X-Men, but better than the third one (which really sucked).
You know I was going to like this. It's got a good story, it's superheroes, it's got a tormented main character, it's superheroes, there's lots of eye candy, it's superheroes, and well doesn't everyone love Wolverine?
I think they would have had to try to make me unhappy with this movie.
There are things they could do with this franchise that would make me happier. Like if there was a new movie every 4 months and they were all as good as the first X-Men.
I'm sure there were negatives and caveats, but about the only one I can remember is the music. They filmed a lot of this in New Zealand and used the local orchestra. I have no idea what is different about them, but I can hear NZSO. They are very distinctive. It gave this movie a "hobbity twang" that made me crazy. Luckily the music was mostly invisible so I was not constantly irritated.
I could have gone for more Bradley eye candy. I admit that as much as I like Wolverine as a character and as aptly as I think Hugh Jackman is playing the role, I'm really not attracted to dark and skanky. I like my visual-fantasy men clean and blond. But hey, Wolverine's in the title, I don't think they were really planning for my preferences there....
