I really like the new Kindle for PC software from Amazon. It solves my problems with the Kindle in that I had no need for a stand-alone device and did not want to spend that much money to have a tiny screen when I was going to be sitting right next to my computer. But I did sometimes want e-books, especially when there were specials like the weekly free books from Samhain.

Though I have to admit the first e-book I read from Samhain convinced me that they had to give it away because no one would buy it. It had ridiculous grammatical errors, spelling inconsistencies, and all the hallmarks of being written by a 12 year old virgin despite relatively graphic sex scenes. There's better fanfic out there that's not professionally edited, so the Samhain people didn't bother to do their jobs on that one book. The second book was actually a sequel novella to a physical book I'd bought several years ago and been disappointed in. The sequel was OK story-wise but completely absent on the character development and the only sex scene was awkwardly fade-to-black because the timeline got skewed.

I can knit while reading e-books. That makes me feel really spiffy.

My phone got borked again over the weekend. I think I need to learn how to hack it myself so I can fix it myself. Because my SO was sloppy. He said he got "all my photos" but got about half. He retrieved all my apps, but email and contacts and messaging and web bookmarks and calendar were all broken and required several hard restarts to fix. I told him not to hack my phone again. The hacks made it a much better device, but.... whenever there's a problem it stops being a useful device.

My new laptop doesn't have an "external monitor only" video mode, of course we made it the [cursing goes here] media machine. Also the volume adjustment keys do not work. Normally on a desktop machine, I'd swap in a real keyboard and the problem would be solved. But the keyboards and volume adjustment keys are built into the laptop.

I have discovered that I cannot write at my main computer. It just does not happen. I can focus when I am in another room, but I worry about laptop ergonomics. These are excuses and I know it. I do not want to be a writer, but I am often frustrated by books I read. And I have stories in my head that jump around from scene to scene. I would like to see the whole story coherently told just so I can understand what's in my own imagination. I know the only solution to that is to actually sit down and write.
